ForFarmers joint venture Tasomix has implemented a highly efficient gas cogeneration system at its feed mill in Pionki, Poland.
This is Tasomix's second plant where this innovative technology has been installed, the company said, with a capacity of 998 kW of electricity and 1100 kW of thermal energy.
“Cogeneration, the process of simultaneously producing electricity and heat from one energy source, offers numerous benefits that support our mission, ‘For the Future of Farming,’” said Slawomir Malik, operations director of Tasomix. “The higher efficiency of the system significantly reduces the cost of electricity and thermal energy. The thermal energy produced is used in the form of steam for feed production and heating technology, as well as for heating offices and technical rooms in winter.”
In addition, cogeneration ensures energy security by making Tasomix less dependent on external energy sources. This offers more control and stability in energy supply.
“An important environmental benefit is the significant reduction in carbon footprint,” Slawomir said. “Since commissioning cogeneration, we have reduced emissions by more than 3,000 tons of CO2 per year. Moreover, the production of 6,000 megawatts of electricity has led to an additional reduction of 2,500 tons of CO2 emissions.”
ForFarmers purchased 60% of shares in Tasomix in 2018, strengthening its position as the leading feed company in Europe. ForFarmers paid PLN242 million (US$64.1 million) in cash and received 60% of the shares. The feed mill in Pionki, south of Warsaw, has a maximum capacity of approximately 350,000 tons.
