Proposition 12 ‘like a wrecking ball’ to small restaurants

Latino Restaurant Association leader tells House Agriculture Committee the law placed economic pressure on restaurants that were already operating on “razor-thin margins.”

The executive director of the Latino Restaurant Association (LRA) told members of the House Agriculture Committee that small restaurants, the customers that patronize them, and their cultures have suffered since California’s Proposition 12 law went into effect.

The committee on July 23 held the Hearing “An Examination of the Implications of Proposition 12” in which the controversial California ballot initiative-turned law was the focus. Proposition 12 calls for all eggs raised in or sold in California to come from cage-free hens and all pork produced or sold in California to come from farms that do not use gestation stalls.
