Finland the latest European country to detect ASF virus

For the first time, the African swine fever (ASF) virus has been detected in Finland — in wild boar.

At the end of July, a first African swine fever (ASF) virus-positive case was detected in Finland, reports local media YLE.

Testing positive for the disease, which affects members of the pig family, were the remains of three wild boar piglets found in Virolahti in the southeast of the country. The carcasses had been found and reported by a member of the public.
