Southeast Asian states raise ASF alert

After confirmation of a series of African swine fever (ASF) in several countries in the region, veterinary authorities are urging pig owners in Southeast Asia to be alert for signs of the disease.

Within the past few days, several new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in farmed pigs have been registered in two Southeast Asian countries — Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos) and the Philippines.

In Laos, 24 village herds were hit by the disease between July 1 and mid-September. This is according to a recent notification to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) from the national animal health agency.
