WOAH releases new guidelines for assessing, monitoring ASF vaccine efficacy

The guidelines should make it easier for regulators to evaluate safety data on ASF vaccines used in other countries, according to a Pirbright Institute veterinarian.

A new set of guidelines for evaluating African swine fever (ASF) vaccines in the field before they are registered — and monitoring them once they are approved — should help improve the reliability of these vaccines over time, according to a veterinarian at The Pirbright Institute.

The guidelines, which were released late last month by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), aim to standardize the design of vaccine trials and the collection of safety and efficacy data before and after vaccines are approved for use in the field.
