Nations advised how to optimize ASF vaccine use

New guidelines have been published on how vaccination can contribute to the global control of African swine fever (ASF).

Eleven key points emerged from the Guidelines for African Swine Fever (ASF) Vaccines published recently by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Aimed at veterinary services, competent authorities and other stakeholders in the evaluation and implementation of ASF vaccination programs, the latest guidelines focus mainly on field evaluation and post-vaccination monitoring. According to WOAH, the recommendations have been developed to support the design, implementation and evaluation of field studies, as well as decision-making on vaccine deployment, and the monitoring of ASF vaccination programs, taking into account differences in regional conditions.
