The U.S. pork industry is much better prepared for a potential outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) than it was seven years ago, but it is still an area of deep concern for industry leaders.
At the Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit on May 6 in Kansas City, Missouri, Stephanie Wetter, director of animal welfare for the National Pork Board (NPB), was asked what the biggest industry concern that keeps her "up at night" is. She said that even though a lot of strides have been made in preparing for if and when ASF is confirmed in the U.S., it is "still No. 1" among her concerns.
