As further outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) are reported on South Korean farms, disease controls are being stepped up ahead of the New Year festivities next week.

At the start of February, four African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks involving domestic pigs had been confirmed in South Korea since the start of 2026.

Since then, the agriculture ministry has reported outbreaks at six more farms, bringing the nation’s total so far in 2026 to 10 (as of February 9). Directly affected by the disease — through mortality or culling — at these premises have been approximately 87,700 pigs.
