ASF hits more communities in the Philippines

The Southeast Asian nation has seen more cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the Visayas region in recent weeks, and there has been a sharp year-on-year increase in outbreaks in Vietnam.

Visayas — an archipelago region between the country’s main islands of Luzon and Mindanao — appears to be the focus of a spike in African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks in the Philippines.

Latest update on the disease situation from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI; June 30) puts the total number of communities across the country with active outbreaks at 15.
