Commercial ASF vaccination could start soon in the Philippines

Meanwhile, two more village herds have been infected in South Africa, and the spike in African swine fever cases in European wild boar continues.

While limited government-controlled vaccination of domestic pigs against African swine fever (ASF) in the Philippines is ongoing, a decision to commence commercial vaccination could come as early as the first week of April.

According to a senior official at the Department of Agriculture (DA), rollout of the AVAC vaccine will be closely controlled, reported the official Philippine News Agency (PNA) last week. Aim of a commercial vaccination program is to support the recovery of the country’s pig industry, which was hit hard by the disease during the second half of 2024.
