The deputy commissioner for foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has resigned after at least 89 people out of 2,000 in his division were fired last weekend.

The deputy commissioner for foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has resigned after at least 89 people out of 2,000 in his division were fired last weekend.

Jim Jones, who was hired in September 2023 as the agency’s first deputy commissioner for human foods, cited “indiscriminate firing” for his departure in a letter sent to Sara Brenner, acting commissioner of the FDA.
