Sustell, SustainCERT partner to help companies substantiate emissions claims

Partnership will connect footprint measurement, verification and carbon registry capabilities.

DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health’s environmental footprint platform Sustell has partnered with SustainCERT, an independent validation and verification body, to help companies turn sustainability data into credible climate action. Through the partnership, customers will gain access to independent third-party verification services and carbon registry capabilities via SustainCERT's Carbon Management Platform (CMP).

As demand grows for transparent and verifiable sustainability data, organizations are seeking more robust ways to measure, validate and share emissions information across increasingly complex supply chains.

Sustell is the only ISO-certified animal protein footprinting platform that supports life cycle assessment (LCA) across crop production, feed manufacturing, animal farming and processing. Partnering with SustainCERT adds independent verification and a trusted carbon registry through its Carbon Management Platform (CMP), enabling the registration, attribution and management of carbon and emissions data across agricultural value chains.

For animal protein producers, processors, food companies and retailers, a significant proportion of their environmental footprints originates on the farm. Sustell enables producers to calculate product-level environmental footprints using farm-specific data collected directly from producers, rather than relying solely on industry averages and generic datasets. This allows the value chain to progress toward Scope 3 targets, such as those validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), based on primary data and in compliance with the latest GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard (LSRS).

The data can then be verified by SustainCERT before being transferred on the Carbon Management Platform. This centralized system accommodates verified and unverified data, and allows organizations to register, attribute and claim Scope 3 data across the value chain. The unitization system of emission data mitigates risks of double counting and over-claiming. The registry capabilities create a trusted mechanism for transferring verified emissions data between value-chain partners, improving transparency, consistency and auditability in Scope 3 reporting.

Together, Sustell and SustainCERT help supply-chain partners build greater trust in farm-level emissions data. By combining footprint measurement, independent verification and the Carbon Management Platform capabilities, organizations can improve Scope 3 reporting accuracy, strengthen sustainability claims and more effectively share emissions data across complex agricultural value chains.

"Organizations across the food and agriculture value chain are under increasing pressure to demonstrate credible progress on their climate commitments. Yet the quality, consistency and verifiability of underlying emissions data remains a significant challenge, particularly when it comes to Scope 3 emissions,” said Thomas Blackburn, vice president of business development at SustainCERT. “By combining Sustell's robust farm-level footprinting capabilities with SustainCERT's verification expertise and Carbon Management Platform, we are helping companies build greater confidence in sustainability claims, improve transparency across supply chains and translate emissions data into credible climate action."

“This partnership helps close a critical gap between measurement and action. By combining trusted footprint measurement, independent verification and carbon registry capabilities, we are enabling organizations to confidently share emissions data across the value chain and accelerate progress toward their sustainability goals,” said Dr. David Nickell, vice president Sustainability & Business Solutions and head of Sustell.
