ASF suspected in India’s Gujarat state

An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) is suspected in Gujarat, while new cases are confirmed in two other states.

Over the past week, local media in India have reported new African swine fever (ASF) cases in domestic pigs, and not only in the northeast of the country.

The disease is suspected as the cause of death of almost 200 animals in the western state of Gujarat, reported ETV Bharat this month. Pigs were affected at several locations near Ambaji in the north of the state. Samples were taken to identify the cause of the mortalities, and the carcasses were removed and destroyed.
