GLW Feeds, a family-owned compound and blended feed manufacturer in England, has acquired a shareholding in Abireo Animal Nutrition, a Northern Ireland feed additive company founded in 2025.
The companies announced the deal in a joint release and did not disclose financial terms or the size of the stake. Abireo will continue to operate as an independent business, with its team, customer and supplier relationships, day-to-day operations and distribution model unchanged.
The partnership is aimed at ruminant and monogastric feed markets in the U.K., Ireland and the rest of Europe. GLW brings manufacturing capacity and resources, and Abireo brings additive products and technical services.
Louis White, managing director at GLW Feeds, described the stake as a long-term investment.
"Becoming a shareholder in Abireo represents a long-term investment in a business with a strong commitment to innovation, impressive technical expertise and an established reputation within the industry," White said.
What Abireo sells
Abireo's portfolio centers on additives meant to support animal performance, nutrient use and production efficiency. It also offers a ration formulation service built on the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System.
Its yeast product uses an enzymatic process to release functional compounds from yeast, which the company said support gut health, immune function and resilience. Its toxin mitigation products are designed to manage mycotoxins and endotoxins through binding and other modes of action.
Abireo also sells rumen-protected amino acids, which deliver nutrients beyond the rumen for absorption. More precise amino acid supply can improve protein use and production efficiency, according to the companies.
Sophie Parker-Norman, technical director, and Michael Woodrow lead Abireo. Their backgrounds cover veterinary immunoepidemiology, nutritional immunology, ruminant nutrition, technical marketing and formulation. The company supplies feed manufacturers, distributors, nutritionists and veterinary businesses with additives plus formulation, immunology and marketing support.
GLW's mill footprint
GLW Feeds dates to 1873. It makes compound and blended livestock feeds and runs a national trading business in straights, or single feed ingredients, for U.K. livestock farmers.
The company operates mills in Shepshed and Martley, England, and a blending shed in Melton Mowbray, England. It bought the Martley mill in Worcestershire from Estate Country Animal Feeds in August 2025, according to GLW company news.glw-feeds.co
White said the Abireo deal is meant to pair those assets with Abireo's technical work.
"This partnership is about building on what already works, bringing together complementary strengths to progress our shared ambitions," White said.
Why Abireo kept its independence
Parker-Norman said Abireo has grown quickly since its 2025 launch by working closely with customers, and that independence was a condition of any deal.
"Finding the right long-term partner was extremely important to us. We wanted to work with a business that understood the importance of our independence, relationships and the way we work," Parker-Norman said.
She said the investment gives Abireo the resources to expand its technical offering.
"This partnership gives us the resources needed to build on our momentum, strengthen our technical offering and continue our growth across the U.K., Ireland and Europe," Parker-Norman said.
What remains open
Customers will keep working with the same Abireo staff, according to the companies. Both businesses will retain their own identities and ways of working. Parker-Norman said Abireo will keep its focus on working openly with customers, sharing technical knowledge and finding practical solutions.
The companies did not say whether GLW will manufacture or distribute Abireo products, whether the stake carries board seats or what new investment the deal will fund.
