Taiwan’s first ASF outbreak suspected

If confirmed, Taiwan will become the latest Asian state to be hit by African swine fever (ASF). A range of measures have been put in place to bring the outbreak under control.

Testing of domestic pigs at a farm in the Taichung city region in central Taiwan has revealed the presence of the African swine fever (ASF) virus, reports Focus Taiwan.

Over the previous 10 days, 117 of the animals had died. As investigations into the source of the infection continue, 195 swine have been culled in order to prevent the further spread of the virus.
