Wayne-Sanderson Farms worker dies in apparent accident

The deceased has been an employee of the company for the past 16 years.

An apparent accident that led to the death of a Wayne-Sanderson Farms employee on October 19 is under investigation.

The incident occurred at a company facility in Decatur, Alabama, around 7 p.m., a spokesperson for the Decatur Police Department told Fox 54. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but did not survive.

“We are deeply saddened about the passing of one of our team members, Keith Kelsoe,” the company stated. “We share our deepest condolences with his loved ones and are providing local chaplain services and grief counseling for family, friends, and team members at our Decatur facility.”

The facility was initially part of Wayne Farms’ operations, before Wayne Farms and Sanderson Farms merged in 2022 to form Wayne-Sanderson Farms.

Kelsoe, 52, had been employed by the company since May 2008.

Details regarding the situation are currently under investigation the company stated.

Wayne-Sanderson Farms is the third largest poultry producer in the United States and the fifth largest in the world, having processed 148.1 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis during the past year. As a feed producer, Wayne-Sanderson Farms ranks as the 19th largest in the world, having produced 7.5 million metric tons during the past year.
