Among the measures proposed to improve the well-being of farmed animals in the United Kingdom are a shift away from colony cages for laying hens, and farrowing crates for pigs, as well as the promotion of slower-growing broilers.

Published this week, the Animal Welfare Strategy encompasses a wide range of measures aimed to improve the lives of the nation’s companion animals and wildlife, as well as farmed animals (including fish).
