U.K. government launches new strategy on animal welfare

Among the measures proposed to improve the well-being of farmed animals in the United Kingdom are a shift away from colony cages for laying hens, and farrowing crates for pigs, as well as the promotion of slower growing broilers.

Published earlier this week, the Animal Welfare Strategy encompasses a wide range of measures aimed to improve the lives of the nation’s companion animals and wildlife, as well as farmed animals (including fish).
