After last week’s blog, I considered it essential to do the same for pigs, and since piglet nutrition remains a favorite topic of mine, I have focused on that for this blog. Since 2020, research in piglet nutrition has advanced in several key areas aimed at optimizing early growth, enhancing immune function and improving overall survival rates. This blog explores the primary focal points that have captured the most attention in piglet nutrition research.

Gut health is fundamental to the growth and development of piglets, and it has been a major focal point in recent research, especially in areas where antibiotics and zinc oxide at pharmacological doses are no longer allowed. Researchers are exploring various strategies to promote gut health, including the use of prebiotics, probiotics and synbiotics in piglet diets. These dietary interventions aim to foster a balanced gut microbiota, reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases and minimize the need for antibiotics, thus supporting the overall health and performance of piglets.
