The reasoning behind this type of research has been rising costs and environmental concerns associated with several traditional protein sources. Insects, particularly black soldier fly larvae, have emerged as a promising alternative, providing a high-protein, nutrient-rich feed component that can be produced with a much smaller environmental footprint. Plant-based proteins, such as those derived from legumes and oilseeds, are also being studied for their potential to replace conventional protein sources in poultry diets.
