Why Vietnamese pig farmers are reluctant to carry out ASF vaccination

Pig owners in Vietnam would be more likely to vaccinate their animals against African swine fever (ASF) if they had more information on available vaccines, established vaccination protocols, virus strains in their area, and there was a compensation scheme in place in case of losses.

Several possible explanations are proposed for an apparent reluctance by Vietnam’s pig owners to vaccinate their animals against African swine fever (ASF).

Among these are a lack of confidence in the efficacy of the vaccines, according to Nguyen Van Thang, a representative of the Hoa My Livestock Cooperative of Hanoi. He was addressing this topic at a seminar on the disease last week, reported DanViet.
