Local soy transforms Austria’s egg sector

Using a coordinated approach across the supply chain, all the country’s laying hens are now eating diets based on non-genetically modified (non-GM) soy grown within Europe.

In 2013, the majority of Austrian egg producers fed their birds diets containing imported soybean meal as the main protein source.

Thirteen years later, the sector has completely switched to non-GM soy grown within Europe, reports the European Commission Directorate for Agriculture, DG Agriculture and Rural Development (DG-AGRI).
