4 premier pig scientific events for 2015, 2016

If I wanted to attend a scientific event where top-class scientists present the most recent advances in pig production, where would I go? Let’s take it by continents.

If I wanted to attend a scientific event where top-class scientists present the most recent advances in pig production, where would I go? Let’s take it by continents.

Australia

There is the biennial conference of the Australasian Pig Science Association, Manipulating Pig Production, with some exceptional proceedings being published. I have always wanted to go, but Australia is too far away for me, so this is out of the question. The next conference will be held November 23-25, 2015, in Melbourne, Victoria.

America

The American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Midwest Section meeting remains the premier event of the kind, as far as I am concerned. I have been there multiple times, but I have not returned since I moved from the United States back to Europe. Perhaps I should start going again? The next meeting will be held March 14-16, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Asia

The ASAS Chinese Meeting, the Chinese Swine Industry Symposium, will be held October 20-21, 2016, in Shanghai, and I have been invited to give a talk on additives (one of my favorite topics), so I must attend! But, let me know if you are aware of further significant events.

Europe

Now, Europe is a diverse group of countries, all very interesting; but which one is the best when it comes to advances in swine science? There is an annual French event, Journées de la Recherche Porcine, of which I have all of the proceedings, and they have very good information, indeed. The next event will be held February 2-3, 2016, in Paris. I have always wanted to attend, but I can only read French. I was informed this year there will be an English translation going on, so this is "plus one" for me. And, let’s not forget that as a nutritionist I have always followed the French school. Perhaps I have already made up my mind…

Let me know if you’re attending some pig science events this year or next year. I am always open to new things!
