As Tyson Foods is soon to undergo a changing of the guard, the company's incoming and outgoing chief executive officers are optimistic about the company's future.
With Jeff Schomburger to succeed Donnie King, effective October 4, King took part today in his final quarterly earnings call in that capacity. Both men took the opportunity to talk about the company's trajectory.
Thoughts from Jeff Schomburger
Schomburger will be new to the CEO role, but he is not a stranger to Tyson Foods, he said.
"I've had the privilege of serving on the Tyson Foods board of directors for more than 10 years, and over that time, I have developed a deep respect for this company, its people, culture, brands, customers and long-term potential," said Schomburger, who spent the bulk of his career with Procter & Gamble, having retired from that company in 2019 as the global sales officer.

He said that during the past decade on the board, he has watched the Tyson team "navigate complex cycles, make disciplined decisions and build a more consistent organization."
Schomburger said that as he evaluates the company's strategy under King's leadership, he sees it is "very clear that it's working." He said his main strategy is to "stay the course and accelerate the strategy that's already delivering great results."
Since his appointment was initially announced in late May, Schomburger has dedicated time to become even more familiar with the company's team members, plants and consumers.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to be on this team," he said. "Our people, our culture and our brands are strong. The customers I talk to, they want us to help them grow. I'll have a lot more to say in the future, but I really like where we are, and I really like our chances."
Thoughts from Donnie King
King has been with Tyson Foods for 43 years, having held numerous leadership positions before being named CEO in 2021.

However, his time with the company is not coming to an end when his tenure as CEO is finished. He explained that he will remain as a board member and "stay closely engaged in the company's performance in long-term directions."
"I feel good about the progress we are making," he said. "Our strategy is working. Our portfolio is strong, and this team is well-positioned for the opportunities ahead. Most importantly, we have a solid foundation in place. We are building momentum growing the business and staying focused on delivering stronger performances over time."
King also stressed that the company's progress during his time as CEO is due to the efforts and dedication of many people.
"I want to take a moment to say thank you to our team members, our customers, our family farmers and ranchers, and our shareholders. I'd also like to thank our chairman, John Tyson and the Tyson family — Barbara, John Randal and Olivia — for their support and leadership throughout my time as CEO. Tyson is a strong company because of the people behind it, and I'm grateful for the work they do every day," King said.
