The first piglet diet after weaning often fails because we ask it to do too many jobs at the same time. We want it to maximize growth, prevent diarrhea, stimulate intake, calm the gut, replace medication, impress the customer and still hit a budget that belongs to a simpler animal. That is how formulas become crowded and confused.
Young piglets usually have one main bottleneck at nursery placement. On one farm, it is feed intake. On another, it is digestive safety. Elsewhere, it may be health pressure or weight variation. The first diet should be designed to ease the biggest bottleneck, not to solve every possible problem in one bag.
