The National Pork Board has made swine health a central pillar of its new three-year strategic plan, with CEO David Newman calling for a more coordinated industry response to both endemic and foreign animal diseases.

Newman outlined the strategy in a recent “Dean’s Dialogue” with Jayson Lusk, dean of Oklahoma State University’s Ferguson College of Agriculture, saying the plan launched in January 2026 around three priorities: demand, collaboration with state pork associations and allied organizations, and a national swine health strategy.
