Clarification on hemp opens door to feed use in Australia

Australian producers should be able to feed hemp seed meal without running afoul of regulators after updates to regulatory language.

Australian livestock producers are clear to begin feeding hemp seed meal to their animals after an update to regulatory language by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).

The APVMA changed language on its website in May to clarify that feeding cannabis and hemp, including hemp oil, to pets and livestock is prohibited if the ingredient is not registered with the agency and “if it meets the definition of a veterinary chemical product.”
