Sweden to support farming, aquaculture firms over rising costs

Approval has been granted for the Swedish authorities to financially support firms facing spiraling prices as a result of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

Companies in Sweden involved in agriculture, aquaculture and fishing have come under increasing cost pressures since the start of the war in Iran. Disruption to oil supplies as a result of the conflict and instability has led to sharp increases in the prices of fuel and fertilizers.

In the European Union (EU), financial support offered by national governments is not generally permitted, as this can lead to an imbalance in the competitive situation in member states.
