The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council recently brought 13 Mexican feed nutritionists to the University of Nebraska for an intensive educational program focused on corn co-products and their applications in livestock nutrition.
Educational focus on DDGS benefits
USGBC Senior Marketing Specialist Javier Chávez and Marketing Specialist Eduardo Martinez Gonzalez led the two-day seminar designed to improve understanding of distiller’s dried grains with solubles and new generation DDGS products.
“By engaging key nutritionists in an important U.S. export market like Mexico, the Council can emphasize U.S. corn co-products like distiller’s dried grains with solubles and new generation DDGS and their ability to diversify protein sources, improve feed efficiency and support sustainable supply chains,” Chávez said.
The program featured presentations from industry experts covering the nutritional characteristics of DDGS, feed inputs’ roles in improving metabolism of beef and dairy cattle, and applications of DDGS in swine diets.
Hands-on facility tours
The second day included a tour of USGBC member POET’s ethanol facility in Fairmont, where participants observed DDGS production firsthand. The group also visited a local farm and feedlot to complete their understanding of how U.S. corn co-products move through the value chain.
“The Council is continuing to provide technical materials to stakeholders that help improve DDGS inclusion rates by emphasizing cost-effectiveness and nutritional advantages,” Chávez said. “These updates are tailored to end-users to ensure they can confidently integrate U.S. corn co-products into their operations.”
The educational activities reflect the Council’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that expand the role of U.S. grains in global markets.
