Nigeria prepares to scale up insect protein production

While the West African country has several advantages for the production of black soldier fly larvae, it is gradually addressing several hurdles so this potential can become reality.

Among the requirements for black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) to become a practical alternative protein for livestock feeds in Nigeria, issues of policy, investment and research need to be addressed.

These were among the key issues raised at the latest meeting of the National Roundtable on Black Soldier Fly Larvae Development in Nigeria. It was held recently at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Ibadan, reports Guardian of Nigeria. Participants included policymakers, lawmakers, scientists, investors and BSFL entrepreneurs.
