Beta Bugs raises money in new funding round, names CEO

The funding will support delivery of critical milestones leading to first sales of Hiper-Fly, in the early part of 2027.

Insect genetics company Beta Bugs Ltd. has raised GBP800,000 (US$1.1 million) in a new funding round from its existing investors. The funding will support delivery of critical milestones leading to first sales of Hiper-Fly, in the early part of 2027.

“This investment reflects investors’ confidence in our vision, based on the progress made over the last 12 months,” said Dr. Christopher Richards, chair of Beta Bugs.

In early 2026, independent trials demonstrated the superiority of Hiper-Fly against industry benchmarks. In August, the company inked a memorandum of understanding with FreezeM to develop Hiper-Fly as a suspended neonate product, enabling Beta Bugs to supply improved genetics across Europe.

Richards added that Beta Bugs has named Dr. Alan Tinch as CEO.

“Alan has extensive experience of commercializing advanced genetics in species such as chickens, pigs and salmon; he knows how to create a profitable business,” Richards said. “He has already had significant impact through his membership of our Science Advisory Board.”
