DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health is collaborating with Kynetec, a provider of agricultural and animal health data.
The partnership strengthens the feed raw material data foundation of Sustell, a life-cycle assessment platform, enabling more precise, science-based measurement of environmental footprints across the farm-to-fork animal protein value chain.
Since 2020, Kynetec has gathered representative, trusted, primary activity data from farmer surveys across more than 90 crops in more than 50 countries, including all major and minor feed crops, supporting environmental footprint measurement across livestock and aquaculture systems.
“Partnering with Kynetec further strengthens the robust, data-driven approach of Sustell, bringing high-quality, real-world crop data directly into our clients’ life-cycle assessments,” said Dr. David Nickell, global vice president sustainability and business solutions at DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health. “This integration gives producers more accurate, regionally specific insights into the true footprint of their feed and farming systems, turning data into actionable improvements that drive measurable progress across the animal protein value chain.”
The Sustell platform now integrates globally harmonized, farm-level crop insights, delivering more representative environmental factors for major feed crops and bridging the crucial crop-feed-farm data gap. This integration enhances the precision and credibility of animal protein footprints, empowering sustainability teams to pinpoint and prioritize targeted improvement opportunities with greater accuracy and effectiveness.
“Feed crops account for a large share of animal protein’s environmental footprint, yet the data behind them are often outdated or generic,” said Dr. Rob Fetter, global sustainability lead at Kynetec. “By linking our globally representative, field-level data with Sustell, we’re giving farms and companies a clearer, more localised view of their true footprint — and a stronger foundation for improvement. This partnership makes sustainability accounting more credible, practical and actionable, from the field all the way to the finished product.”
The combined approach allows Sustell users to track environmental performance over time, quantify the benefits of sourcing decisions and regenerative practices in line with international frameworks, including ISO 14067, the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard, EU PEF and FAO LEAP.
By integrating robust, real-world data with Sustell, DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health continues to transform sustainability from a reporting exercise into a driver of business value and growth for animal production systems worldwide.
