Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Siam Sanitary Ware (COTTO) to convert eggshell waste into sustainable, eco-conscious sanitaryware products.

Under the MOU, CPF will supply eggshell waste from its hatchery in Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province, to be repurposed by COTTO.

Thanongchai Asawinchaichote, COTTO managing director, stated:  “COTTO is committed to developing innovations for sustainable living. One of our key projects focuses on replacing limestone with eggshells in the glaze production process for sanitaryware. This approach not only reduces the consumption of natural resources but also significantly lowers carbon emissions during manufacturing. We are delighted to welcome CPF as a strategic partner in providing bio/organic waste material. This collaboration marks the beginning of a new value chain — one where biological waste is given a renewed purpose that benefits both consumers and the environment.”

COTTO has already filed a patent for this innovative use of eggshells in ceramic glaze production, and the application is currently under review.

Panuwat Niamprem, executive vice president of CPF's integrated broiler and duck Business, said: “At CPF, we operate under the concept of sustainovation, sustainable innovation, to reach our net zero greenhouse gas emission goal. By adopting circular economy and waste to value strategies, we ensure that biological byproducts, such as eggshells from our hatcheries, are repurposed effectively. Our collaboration with COTTO is a strong example of unlocking value across the supply chain, optimizing resource usage, and enabling true circularity. This initiative not only helps reduce the need for landfill disposal but also contributes to lower CO₂ emissions.”

CPF, according to information from the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, is the world’s 10th largest broiler producer, seventh largest egg producer and fourth largest feed producer. During the past year, the Thailand-based company slaughtered 685 million broilers, had a flock of 20.7 million laying hens and produced 17.5 million metric tons of feed.
