You may have seen or heard of the Mill food recycler – a clever bin for your home kitchen that breaks down food waste into grounds that can be used for chicken feed, garden soil or compost.
Through a new partnership with Amazon, Mill will bring its product to Whole Foods Market stores to reduce in-store food waste. According to a Mill press release, the grocer will be the first to deploy Mill Commercial, a new, automated, high-capacity food recycling infrastructure. Starting in 2027, fruit and vegetable scraps generated in back-of-house operations will be processed by Mill’s innovative technology and turned into a nutrient-rich chicken feed ingredient intended for Whole Foods Market’s private-label egg suppliers. In addition, Mill received an investment from Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund to enable the deployment of this technology.
