dsm-firmenich, a leader in health, nutrition and beauty, has published findings from its World Mycotoxin Survey for January to September 2024. The survey analyzed 17,675 feed samples across 91 countries, identifying deoxynivalenol, fumonisins and zearalenone as the most prevalent mycotoxins, with high contamination levels in North and Central America, South Asia, China and Taiwan.
Key findings include:
- Regional and global risk levels for each mycotoxin
- Species-specific risks posed by mycotoxins
- Year-on-year comparison with 2023 data
- Insights into Spectrum 380, an advanced detection method, and Spectrum Top50, a comprehensive multi-mycotoxin detection tool
The survey also analyzed key by-products and alternative feed ingredients, revealing widespread contamination risks for agricultural sustainability and animal health. Ursula Hofstetter, head of mycotoxin risk management at dsm-firmenich, emphasized the critical need for effective mycotoxin management to safeguard agricultural productivity and profitability.
