A former Neogen employee has been sentenced after pleading guilty to embezzling money from the company.

Tammy Ritter, who pleaded guilty on February 26 to embezzling more than $100,000 from the company, was sentenced on April 21 to one year in prison and 60 months’ probation. She was also ordered to pay US$275,000 in restitution to Neogen and nearly US$250,000 to Federal Insurance Co., as well as US$1,800 in fines and court costs. Ritter was ordered to report to Ingham County Jail in Michigan on April 23.

The case, investigated by the Lansing Police Department, involved alleged conduct that occurred between 2014 and 2018. Evidence was presented to the prosecutor’s office in October 2018 and Ritter was charged in November 2019.

A request for comment from Neogen was not returned.
