ProAmpac has announced an expansion of its partnership with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), continuing a collaboration established in 2024 to advance fiber research and experiential learning programs.
The next phase of the initiative focuses on joint fiber research projects, connecting WPI's materials science program with ProAmpac's manufacturing and material science resources.
"This next phase strengthens our ability to push the boundaries of fiber-based technologies to develop high-performance packaging solutions," said Hesam Tabatabaei, chief technology officer at ProAmpac. "By combining WPI's research expertise with ProAmpac's material science resources and manufacturing capabilities, we ensure a strong connection between fundamental research and real-world application to directly benefit our customers."
ProAmpac and WPI are also evaluating additional focus areas, including smart packaging technologies and AI-driven robotic systems for automated sorting of packaging in materials recovery facilities (MRFs).
"This partnership exemplifies the power of Worcester Polytechnic Institute's experiential approach to education, connecting students directly with real-world industry challenges through meaningful collaboration," said Bogdan Vernescu, vice president and vice provost for research and innovation at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
"By pairing the strengths of our highly regarded materials science program with strong industry partnerships, we are preparing students to deliver innovative solutions while providing our industry partners with fresh perspectives, emerging talent, and research-driven insights that help advance materials science, chemical engineering, and packaging innovation."
