France’s Council of State has annulled two Ministry of Agriculture rulings from 2007 and 2008 suspending the planting of genetically modified corn.
The move came after a complaint by agriculture company Monsanto, whose modified corn MON 810 has been affected by the suspensions. The ruling cited a failure to establish not only the urgency of suspending genetically modified corn, but also the existence of a health risk to humans, animals of the environment. Other lawmakers have said that they disagree with the ruling and will continue to find ways to oppose genetically modified crops.
