Corn refiners seek dismissal from sugar producers’ lawsuit
Archer-Daniels Midland Co. and four other corn refiners have asked a judge to dismiss them from a lawsuit by sugar producers over allegedly false advertising that high-fructose corn syrup is natural, saying that they can't be made liable for the statements of the Corn Refiners Association, the trade group of which they are members. A group of sugar growers and refiners sued the corn refiners and the association in 2011, claiming that an advertising campaign that promotes high-fructose corn syrup as “natural” and “nutritionally the same as table sugar” is false and misleading.

Class action lawsuit brought against AgFeed Industries
A class action lawsuit has been filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee on behalf of all persons or entities who purchased or otherwise acquired the stock of AgFeed Industries Inc. between March 16, 2009, and August 2, 2011, according to reports. The complaint alleges that AgFeed made materially false and misleading statements regarding the company's financial health and in particular relating to its animal nutrition business.

DuPont sues Monsanto over alleged corn patent infringement
DuPont's Pioneer seed unit has sued Monsanto Co., claiming the company has infringed on patents that help genetically modified corn seeds germinate. In its lawsuit, filed in United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, Pioneer Hi-Bred International claims that it owns patents on a method "of enhancing the vigor of maize seeds" by defoliating the plant at a particular point after pollination but before harvest, and on a maize seed and stand of maize seeds that have such enhanced vigor.

Syngenta loses court bid over GM corn
Syngenta AG has lost a court bid to temporarily force the North American grain operations of Bunge to accept its Viptera genetically modified corn until a pending lawsuit between the two companies is resolved. Bunge has refused to take the corn, saying the elevators can't accept the grain because the necessary international approval from major export destinations has not yet been obtained.

US Supreme Court will not hear EPA, corn association pesticide case
The U.S. Supreme Court has decided that it will not hear the case, National Corn Growers Association vs. EPA, thus upholding the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to ban the use of the pesticide carbofuran. The EPA banned the pesticide, which is used on corn, potatoes and sunflowers, in 2009.
