South Dakota reports multiple mycotoxins in corn, silage

One state in the U.S. has new confirmed reports of fumonisin and T-2 toxin in corn, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin report from October 30.

One state in the U.S. has new confirmed reports of fumonisin and T-2 toxin in corn, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin report from October 30.

South Dakota has reported fumonisin in corn and T-2 toxin in corn and corn silage.

These reports are added to the previous reports of mycotoxins in corn:

  • Tennessee (fumonisin)
  • Alabama (fumonisin and aflatoxin)
  • Iowa (deoxynivalenol, zearalanone)
  • South Dakota (deoxynivalenol)
  • Kansas (aflatoxin and fumonisin)
  • North Carolina (fumonisin)
  • Missouri (fumonisin)
  • Oklahoma (aflatoxin and fumonisin)
  • Texas (aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin and fumonisin)
  • New York (deoxynivalenol, zearalanone)
  • Pennsylvania (deoxynivalenol)
  • Minnesota (deoxynivalenol)
  • Nebraska (fumonisin)
  • Wisconsin (T-2 toxin)
  • Georgia (Aflatoxin)

Corn development and condition reports

Ninety-six percent of corn has reached the mature stage, one point behind the five-year average. Thirty-eight percent of corn has been harvested, 21 points behind the five-year average.

Sixty-six percent of corn is in good to excellent condition, one point higher than last week, but 12 points worse than 2016. Eleven percent of corn is in poor to very poor condition, unchanged from last week, but four points worse than 2016.

Nine of the country’s 18 corn-producing states continue to report corn in double-digit poor to very poor condition:
