One state saw new reports of deoxynivalenol (DON) in corn and corn silage this week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin and Crop Report from November 12.
The new report of DON in corn and corn silage came from Pennsylvania. Previous reports of DON in corn have come from Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, New York, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada. A previous report of DON in corn silage came from Vermont. A previous report of DON in soybeans came from Iowa.

Previous reports of aflatoxin in corn have come from North Carolina, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Texas, Kansas and Georgia.
Previous reports of T-2/HT-2 toxin in corn silage came from Ontario, Canada.
There were no new reports of mycotoxins in barley or wheat. Spring wheat and barley harvests are complete. Previous reports of DON in barley have come from Pennsylvania and Minnesota. Previous reports of DON in winter wheat have come from Wisconsin, Ohio, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois.
Corn harvest falls behind average
The corn crop is fully mature, but is drying slowly in fields. Ground storage and bagged grain is more likely to compromise wet or damaged grain, and these methods require more frequent mycotoxin testing.
Seventy-six percent of corn acres have been harvested, one point behind the five-year average. Pennsylvania, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas are behind the five-year average.
