DON reported in wheat in 2 new US states

Two more U.S. states have reported deoxynivalenol (DON) in their wheat crop, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from September 5.

Two more U.S. states have reported deoxynivalenol (DON) in their wheat crop, according to Neogen’s Mycotoxin Report from September 5.

The two new confirmed reports of DON in wheat come from Wisconsin and Minnesota. These are added to the states that have previously reported DON in wheat: Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Virginia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky and Maryland.

The winter wheat harvest is complete, while the spring wheat harvest is 76 percent complete — 10 points ahead of the five-year average. Quality trends remain unchanged from last week.

Eighty-three percent of barley acres are harvested, which is also 10 points ahead of the five-year average.

Corn progress, quality

Corn is 86 percent in the dough stage, one point behind the five-year average. Forty-four percent of corn is in the dented stage, seven points behind the five-year average. Six percent of corn is in the mature stage, four points behind the five-year average. Quality trends remain unchanged from last week.

States that are 10 points or more behind their five-year averages in corn development are:

  • Colorado
  • Pennsylvania
  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Wisconsin

States reporting corn in the double digits for poor to very poor condition are:

  • South Dakota
  • North Dakota
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Illinois
  • Nebraska
  • Michigan
  • Iowa
  • Wisconsin

There were no new reports of mycotoxins in corn in the past week.
