A bill that would grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to collect microbial samples from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) during disease outbreaks or when there is a public health need has been introduced in the U.S. Congress.

The Expanded Food Safety Investigation Act (EFSIA) was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.)
