EPA, under Trump, moves forward with stricter regulation of PFAS

PFAS 'forever' chemicals have contaminated water, marine and other feed ingredients around the globe and could impact feed mills, AFIA says.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) intends to retain regulations limiting the environmental presence of PFAS “forever” chemicals — regulations that could lead to significant costs for affected feed mills.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a September 17 statement that the agency will retain the 2024 designation of two PFAS chemicals — perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) — as “hazardous substances” under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
