World Dairy Expo to feature top dairies in virtual farm tours

Designed for dairy producers and industry partners, the 2013 World Dairy Expo will showcase some of the best dairy farms in the industry as well as offer industry-leading seminars.

The World Dairy Expo invites dairy producers and industry professionals from around the globe to experience the “Center of the Dairy Universe” on October 1 through October 5, 2013, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. More than 65,000 dairy industry enthusiasts and 1,000 dairy exhibitors are expected to attend the five-day event.

Each year, the World Dairy Expo provides the opportunity to experience the largest dairy-focused trade show in one venue, see world-class dairy cattle, exchange ideas with fellow dairy operators, gather information from dairy industry experts, and investigate the newest products and technologies. Dairy cattle enthusiasts can take in the action above the famed colored shavings as more than 2,500 head of the finest show cattle compete for the Supreme Champion title. Producers can choose to attend industry-leading expo seminars and virtual farm tours featuring dairy researchers and producer colleagues.

Seminars

Eight free seminars will cover a variety of management topics including: management teams, drug residue, dairy exports, farm transferring, replacement heifers, dairy marketing, feed economics and milk quality. Seminars will be showcased each day, Tuesday through Saturday, in the Mendota 2 meeting room in the exhibition hall.

Farm owners, managers, employees, agribusiness professionals, and veterinarians are all encouraged to attend the 16th annual International Dairy Short Course. Over the course of three days, participants will learn from professors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and expand their knowledge with farm visits and hands-on workshops. More information and registration is available on the World Dairy Expo’s website.

Expo attendees can also benefit from a variety of other international conferences, special seminars and fun programming.

Virtual farm tours

For more than a decade, the virtual farm tours have allowed producers and attendees to visit a variety of dairies from around the United States without leaving the show. This year’s farms are among the best in the dairy industry, excelling in areas of technology, production, robotics, genetics, calf and heifer care, cow management and RFID technology: Si-Ellen Farms, Larson Acres, Dutch Hollow Farm, Cinnamon Ridge, Mystic Valley Dairy, Drumgoon Dairy, Finger Family Farm, and Scheps Dairy.

The free tours will be presented daily, Tuesday, October 1 through Saturday, October 5, in the Mendota 1 meeting room in the exhibition hall. Dairy owners and managers will present a half-hour pictorial overview of their operation, including general operation information and highlights of exceptional management practices. Time for questions and discussion will follow. The presentations will be available for viewing on World Dairy Expo’s website after the show.
