Biotransformation: A new era in counteracting trichothecenes in animal feed
Mycotoxins are naturally occurring, toxic compounds, produced by fungi that infects agricultural crops, particularly cereals and oilseeds. Infection can occur during the growth and storage of crops, but also later on in processed foods and feeds.

How to manage feed mill safety when mixing nano-sized powders
Much of the work in the feed industry focuses around the mixture of ingredients - many of which are powders. Each powder has different physical properties, such as particle size, that pose unique challenges. A compromise needs to be found between plant productivity, cost, the homogeneity of the mix with feed, environmental and worker safety.

Adisseo Selisseo additive receives market authorization for animal nutrition use
Adisseo's Selisseo, a nutritional supplement based on Tetrahedron's NutraSelen compound, has received market authorization from the European Commission for use in animal nutrition for all species. Selisseo is the first proprietary organoselenium-based product to be granted a market authorization in Europe for use in animal nutrition.

Two common mistakes in animal feed additives research
Feed additives are a multi-billion international business, part of the greater animal nutrition industry. Each year, millions are spent of research, yet very few data are being published in credible scientific journals.
Feed Ingredients
Feeding poultry, pigs wheat as an energy source
Wheat, like many other cereals, can vary widely in chemical composition because it is highly affected by cereal cultivar, soil type, environmental conditions and fertilization. However, most wheat used in feeds has 10 to 15 percent crude protein.
Ingredients
Vi-COR Aviator feed ingredient
The Vi-COR Aviator feed ingredient maximizes the benefits of natural carbohydrate chemistry to enhance poultry immunity. The biochemical compound promotes growth, enhances feed efficiency and improves nutrient digestibility.

Shrimp industry makes advancements in battle against Early Mortality Syndrome
Last month researchers at the University of Arizona had breakthrough in the mystery of the Early Mortality Syndrome, a disease which has resulted in massive losses in shrimp farming. A specific blend of 1-monoglycerides has been developed to fight both the viral and bacterial causative agents. Recently, the team successfully produced the first EMS-free cycle on an EMS-infected farms.

Growers must stay on top of mycotoxin risks
While conditions so far this season have not had a big impact on mycotoxin risk scores because the two biggest factors are rainfall during flowering and rainfall at harvest, the late season may affect T3 applications and growers should remain on top of potential risks, according to Dr. Simon Oxley, senior research and knowledge transfer manager with the Home Grown Cereals Authority in the UK.

Finer grinding doesn’t help efficiency for all feeds
While studies have shown that grinding corn finer offers a higher feed efficiency for pigs, that isn't necessarily the case with other feed ingredients. Joel DeRouchey, an animal science specialist from Kansas State University Research and Extension, talked about feed efficiencies on June 5 at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ingredients
Schaumann Ceravital feed additive
The Schaumann Ceravital feed additive is a product of solid-state fermentation. The additive stabilizes the gastrointestinal system by promoting good bacteria, improving feed conversion and animal nutrition.
Mycotoxin Management
Mycotoxin management: The importance of a coordinated program for feed mills
A coordinated mycotoxin management program at a feed mill begins with a comprehensive quality assurance program that includes more than merely testing for mycotoxins during the receiving process. The quality assurance program must also have strategies to prevent their introduction into the manufacturing process and minimize mold growth that could produce mycotoxins during grain storage, feed processing and finished feed storage on the farm.
