USDA funding to help farmers, ranchers cut energy costs
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking applications from rural small businesses and agricultural producers for funding to make energy efficiency improvements or to install renewable energy systems. Up to $12.3 million in grants and $57.8 million in loan guarantees are being provided through the USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).

National Geographic examines future of global food production
National Geographic has launched an online portal, The Future of Food: How to Feed a Growing Planet, to explore the issues surrounding how people eat and the future of global food production. The initiative will aggregate content from an eight-month series in National Geographic magazine and digital-only material, covering topics such as sustainability, crop yield, food policy, climate change, aquaculture and more.

China, the main market for U.S. agribusiness exports in 2011, dropped down to the third position in 2012, according to USDA. The U.S. exports revenue to that country was affected by the reduction in the soybean exports, to US$25 billion, 14 percent less than the year before.

Brazil estimates 162.9 million tons for 2010/2011 harvest
According to the latest estimate made by Ministry of Agriculture, the Brazilian 2010/2011 harvest will set a new record at 162.9 million tons, a 9.2% rise compared to the previous year's 149.2 million tons. The outstanding performance can be mostly attributed to the excellent climatic conditions over the majority of the production areas.

Asia, Latin American soybean elbows out American product
According to Asian traders, about half of the China’s soybean imports in the Q4 of the year must come from Brazil and Argentina, in the midst of the competitive offer of the grain in the stream of the record harvest in the region. The leader soybean importing country must buy from Brazil and Argentina some 7 million tons of the grain between October and December 2011, part of a total demand of 15 million tons, compared to 5 million tons a year ago.

Brazil: record 161.5 million MT for next harvest
The most recent study by CONAB (Brazilian supply company) of the Ministry of Agriculture, estimates a new record harvest for Brazil - 161.5 million MT in 2010/11. In the period, the cropland grew 4.7%, to 49.6 million hectares, 2.2 million more than 2009/10.
