Kemin earned the Innovation Award in the animal health and nutrition category for its Lipid Evaluation Test at VIV Europe, an international trade show for animal husbandry and processing, May 22 in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Kemin was one of four exhibitors selected for the award among 40 innovations showcased. The winners were determined by votes from the more than 20,000 visitors.

“We are pleased to have received this award as it draws attention to the importance of lipid nutrition and its impact on animal production,” said Dr. John Springate, president of Kemin Industries’ animal nutrition and health division in Europe. “The Lipid Evaluation Test is particularly innovative because it effectively evaluates the nutritional and quality profile of lipids, providing the industry with tools that were once not readily available.”

Launched in March, the company’s Lipid Evaluation Test is a customer service tool to better assess the oxidative quality and nutritional value of oils and fats in feed. The service provides nutritionists with accurate lipid profiles containing the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) values and oxidative status and potential in order to improve applications and combat unwanted variations of oils and fats in animal nutrition.

“Today, the feed industry is confronted with a wide variety of lipid sources, and similar to many raw materials, these sources are prone to large variations in their nutritive value,” said Dr. Tom Verleyen, marketing director of Kemin Industries’ animal nutrition and health division in Europe. “Traditionally, nutritionists analyzed oils and fats using the standard energy value, which our researchers have found to be quite different from the actual values. With the Lipid Evaluation Test, nutritionists can work with their Kemin representative to ensure they have accurate, reliable numbers.”
