Draft guidance document provides recommendations to applicants for evaluating the risk of feed ingredients to the environment

An expert working group under the umbrella of the International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF), composed of experts drawn from the ICCF founding members, has developed a new guidance document on Feed Ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment Approach.

The draft guidance document provides recommendations to applicants for evaluating the risk of feed ingredients to the environment, when fed to terrestrial animals or when introduced in aquaculture systems. It provides an approach for evaluating whether an environmental risk assessment is required, based on exclusion criteria and models for calculating the concentration of the feed ingredient in the relevant environmental compartments (soil and water). Depending on the outcome of the evaluation described in this guidance document, further studies may be required, related to the risk of the feed ingredient to the environment.

The ICCF Steering Committee adopted the draft guidance document for public consultation on the November 2.

The public consultation on the guidance document, Feed ingredient Environmental Risk Assessment Approach, is now open. Interested stakeholders are invited to provide their comments on the document using this feedback form or via email until the December 31.
