Tyson Foods has purchased the former Cargill turkey plant in Springdale, Arkansas, according to a local media report.

5News reported that Washington County land records show a December 5, 2025, deed date for the land purchase. The estimated sale value was listed at $23 million.

WATT Global Media reached out to both Tyson Foods and Cargill for comment, but neither company had responded as of mid-morning on January 7.

Cargill announced in early 2025 that it would close the Springdale plant, which employed about 1,000 people and had a network of approximately 100 growers.

Tyson Poultry President Nathan McKay appeared before the Springdale City Council in November, informing the council of its intent to purchase the plant. Tyson was seeking industrial revenue bonds to finance the acquisition.

McKay also told the council members that it did not intend to use the former Cargill plant as a slaughter plant, but rather “for further processing and/or portioning operations.”

At the time, McKay also said that if the acquisition is finalized, renovations would be made to repurchase the plant. Not many people would be employed there during the renovation process, but once it is fully operational more than 200 people could be employed there.

Tyson Foods – a major producer of chicken, beef, pork, turkey and animal feed – is headquartered in Springdale.
