German insect producer FarmInsect is being wound down, according to a September 2 LinkedIn post by Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Westermeier.
“We filed for insolvency in March and spent the months since fighting to save it, with our shareholders and with new partners we brought to the table. In the end the pieces didn't come together,” Westermeier wrote in the post. “We set out to make insect protein a real, sustainable part of the feed system, with production close to the substrate and the farmer. For eight years, with a team I'd choose again in a heartbeat, we built it: real sites, real product, customers who wanted what we made. We proved that decentralised insect production could work, developed the technology, and grew it into the largest network of its kind in Europe. I'm proud of that, and grateful. To the people who built it with me, who gave far more than any job description asked. To the customers and partners who believed early and to the investors who backed us, including the ones who stood by us straight through the crisis and the insolvency.”
FarmInsect’s decentralized, modular production platform was developed to deliver superior economics, reduce environmental impact and provides reliable, high-quality insect protein to customers in feed and pet food markets.
